A seminar on climate adaptation in the cities of Kostanay, Aktau, and Kokshetau
The Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources of the Republic of Kazakhstan, together with the United Nations Development Programme in Kazakhstan, held educational seminars on climate adaptation in the cities of Kostanay (August 28-29), Kokshetau (September 3-4), and Aktau (September 4-5).
The seminars were attended by government officials, representatives of NGOs, scientific institutions, and experts in agriculture, water resources, forestry, and emergency management.
The main objective was to study the national methodology for climate risk assessment and gain practical skills in analyzing climate threats.
Participants learned about the application of the national methodology in planning adaptation measures, mastered risk identification methods, and shared experiences with sector experts.
During an informal meeting with seminar participants, representatives of the Republican Public Association "Climate Research Center" presented a report, "NANOPLASTICS IN THE BIOSPHERE: FROM MOLECULAR IMPACT TO PLANETARY CRISIS," which discusses the impact of nanoplastics on climate processes. The report, "On the Progression of Climate-Related Disasters on Earth and Their Catastrophic Consequences," also featured a statistical analysis of the increasing frequency of natural disasters since the mid-1990s.
The seminars allowed specialists from different regions to exchange experiences and acquire modern tools for their work. Water resource experts explored new aspects of pollution's impact on ecosystems, agricultural specialists examined the impact of climate on soils, and emergency services explored disaster prediction models.
The events strengthened professional ties between specialists and demonstrated the importance of a systems approach to climate change.
